I have hereditary hearing loss ("cookie bite" deformity), and sometimes my ears really hurt after listening to music with headphones, even if the sound is turned down so low I cannot even hear it very well.

I tried something new last week when that happened, and it was the most interesting experience! I was doing UM III, and I didn't want to quit even though my ears started hurting. So I slid the headphones off my ears a bit, thinking maybe letting a little air pressure off might help.

I got this interesting vibrating sensation at the "jaw spot" right in front of my ears and could still hear the music (of course, because the headphones were still somewhat over my ears. But then I began to experiment. I moved the headphones (the ones that came with the MindQuest) off my ears entirely, positioned directly on my temples on either side. Neat vibrations! I couldn't hear the nuances of the UM CD quite as well, so I punched up the volume a bit. Voila! I could hear perfectly, plus my temples were vibrating in a really neat massage-like way, and my ears did not hurt at all.

I've been doing this now for a week, and it's been great. It's how I'm going to listen from now on. I'm wondering if anyone else has done anything like this...or uses any other kind of technique that might have interesting results like this.

Diane
