Kinda quiet all of a sudden around here so I thought I would start up another topic and see if anyone had any thoughts on this one.

I have severe sleep apnea and must sleep with a machine that blows air through my nasal passages to keep me breathing at night. Without the machine, my body simple "forgets" to breathe hundreds of times per hour. During my conscious hours, I am fine other than getting a bit short of breath when climbing stairs or walking for long periods of time. My problem begins when I meditate. If I attempt to meditate without the machine, I seem to have a problem maintaining my breathing if I start to go deeper than your usual trance that occurs when very involved with a book or movie. I have tried focusing on my breathing, but that seems to keep me from going deeper because I can't let go completely. I have been giving myself positive suggestions at the start of the meditation that I will continue to breathe normally and evenly throughout the meditation but that only seems to work sometimes. I have also tried meditating with my cpap on but the blowing air again seems to interfere with my going deep. It is also very associated with sleep so I don't dare lay down or I will go to sleep rather than meditating.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
