Robert asked me this via private email, but I'd like to share my response to it here because I think others may want to know the same thing.

>What is the importance of sequencing according to instructions?Robert

Robert, please do ask Dane this question directly (he covers it in the brain supercharger book), but I'll tell you what my own experience was.

Without suggesting UM is medicine in the traditional sense of that term, I'll compare its use to titrating a powerful new medication. You start a new antidepressant (say) that you're eventually going to need 300 mg of, but your doctor starts you out at 75 mg because, first, s/he wants to be sure that particular medication is going to be right for you (the positive effects outweigh the negative side effects) and, second, s/he knows your body/brain has to acclimate to the new chemical in the mix; to change its own biochemistry in response to this new "stranger" in its midst. If s/he whollops you with the "optimum" dose all at once, it's harder to assess the drug's potential efficacy and could be toxic to you.

With meds, it's more than just a dose-related thing; the naturally occurring brain biochemicals have to have time to "meet and greet" the newly introduced substance, have to mill around and figure out how to get along with it and use it to their (your) advantage, and then the bodymind (the entire psychoneuroimmunological system) has to acclimate, too. To start out with 300 mg, boom, could not only overwhelm your system's ability to acclimate and work with the new drug, not against it, but it could feel pretty darn bad to you.

You could start with UMIV, but I doubt it will be a productive experience for you. It will probably feel like it's useless, if not downright unpleasant. Your brain will not have gone through the subtle changes (and I am firmly convinced they are anatomical, laying down new neuronal pathways and structures) that the preceding CDs gently titrate you through.

I can say this because, after I received my UM series, I sat down and listened to every single one of those CDs to be sure they were working and that I would "like" them. One thing that was going on was the egotistical/competitive idea that I was too advanced to go through a "meditation for dummies" sequence designed for people who need to "be meditated" by a machine. After all, I'd been meditating on and off (mostly off) for years, hadn't I?

But, mainly, I was thinking "Hey, this Spotts dude has got this money-back guarantee thing set up really slick, hasn't he? You have to stay with the first CD for the first 30 days, so how are you going to know you want your money back if the other ones don't work for you after the money-back guarantee has expired?"

Well, let me tell you, I was physically sick after listening to those CDs. I did NOT like UMIII, IV, or V AT ALL--I absolutely hated them--and I also hated the Transcendental Mind series. I mean REALLY hated them! But what Dane was saying in the brain supercharger book rang so true, his demeanor was so humble and his belief in his products so sincere, and there was such a "shimmer" to the whole thing somehow, that I wanted to give it a chance. And the feeling I was getting with UMI after only a few times of using it was such a delight, that I looked at everything and said to myself, "You know, this really is an excellent value, even if I only listen to UMI and II, the brain supercharger CD, and the Healing Series music."

I also compared cost with what I was paying for my shrink (because at the time I was very severely depressed and unable to function) and all the meds I was taking. Not to mention all the cigarettes I had to chain-smoke to get myself out of bed! Just one half hour under UMI left me feeling SO much better than anything else I was doing to try to get better, and lasted SO much longer, that I thought: "Heck, $200 is a lot less for something I can use over and over and over than what I'm shelling out here for all this other treatment that doesn't seem to be doing me a whole lot of good." Then my CD changer broke, and I couldn't listen to UMI for a while, and I MISSED it! I longed for it! I NEEDED it!

So I did not return the UM series for my money back, as I was at first inclined to do. I kept it and started working with it the way Dane said to do. And, Robert, as I believe we've shared privately (the med thing, etc.), it's completely changed everything for me. It has been everything Dane said it would be and more.

I used to say I'd give up my microwave and my dryer before I'd give up my computer. Yesterday, I came out of my room after an hour with Aboriginal Dream Time (from the Transcendental Mind series) and UMIV--yes, UMIV, which I'm up to now after having sequenced through the UMs as advised. I exclaimed to my housemates: "WOW! I'd give up my COMPUTER before I'd give up these Ultra Meditation CDs!" And I absolutely LOVE UMIV. What a different response to the one I first had to it, when I was not ready for it.

{{{{{{{{{ May the Force be with you! }}}}}}}}}
http://www.mind-tek.com/cgi-bin/af/b.cgi/108

DIANE
